Group Therapy

Find connection and support with others who understand what you're going through

WHAT IT IS

What Is Group Therapy?

The goal: heal in the company of people who understand. Group therapy brings together a small number of people working on related struggles, guided by a licensed facilitator. The goal is what individual work cannot offer on its own — the specific relief of being understood by someone who has actually been there.

The idea: isolation is part of the problem. Grief, addiction, anxiety, and shame all tell you that you are uniquely broken. A room of people describing your internal experience back to you contradicts that more convincingly than any therapist can.

The method: a facilitated, confidential, consistent space. Groups run with clear ground rules about confidentiality and respect. A therapist provides structure and keeps the space safe, while the members supply the perspective, accountability, and recognition.

OUR APPROACH

How Perspective Counseling Services Delivers Group Therapy

Two current groups, both therapist-led. We run a closed eight-week grief and loss series and an ongoing men’s support group. Both are facilitated by licensed clinicians rather than run as peer meetings.

Open to the community, not just current clients. You do not need to be an existing client or hold a referral to join. Groups meet at our Millcreek office; current schedules, facilitators, and pricing are listed on our services page.

WHY IT HELPS

Key Benefits of Group Therapy

Group of people talking in a comfortable room
  • Proof you are not the only one. Hearing your own experience described by someone else does something that reassurance from a therapist cannot.

  • Perspectives from outside your own head. Members offer angles on your situation that neither you nor your therapist would have arrived at alone.

  • A place to practise being known. Group is a lower-stakes setting for the relational skills you are trying to use in the rest of your life.

  • Accountability that is not clinical. Showing up for people who expect you carries a different weight than showing up for an appointment.

  • More affordable per session. Group work costs considerably less per session than individual therapy, and can run alongside it.
