Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Break free from negative thought patterns and build lasting mental resilience

WHAT IT IS

What Is CBT?

The goal: change the patterns that keep you stuck. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy works on the link between what you think, how you feel, and what you do. The goal is to identify the thought and behavior patterns that maintain your distress and to replace them with responses that actually serve you.

The idea: thoughts are hypotheses, not facts. CBT treats automatic thoughts as claims worth testing rather than truths to be obeyed. "I always mess this up" is a pattern that can be examined against evidence — and, more often than not, revised.

The method: structured sessions plus between-session practice. CBT is one of the more structured therapies. You and your therapist set specific goals, track patterns with tools like thought records, run behavioral experiments, and review what changed. Practice between sessions is where most of the progress happens.

OUR APPROACH

How Perspective Counseling Services Delivers CBT

A foundation most of our clinicians share. CBT training is common across our team, which means we can offer it for anxiety, depression, panic, insomnia, perfectionism, and stress-related concerns without a long wait to find a trained clinician.

Blended with deeper work when structure alone is not enough. We rarely deliver CBT in isolation. Clinicians commonly pair it with DBT skills, IFS, EMDR, or somatic work so that structure and depth reinforce each other. Available in Millcreek, Farmington, and by telehealth statewide.

WHY IT HELPS

Key Benefits of CBT

  • Progress you can measure. Because CBT sets specific goals and tracks them, you can see whether the work is moving rather than guessing.

  • Effective across many concerns. CBT is one of the most extensively studied therapies, with strong support for anxiety, depression, panic, and insomnia.

  • Often shorter-term. Many people see meaningful change within a defined course of sessions rather than open-ended treatment.

  • Skills you keep. Thought records, behavioral experiments, and activity scheduling remain useful long after therapy ends.

  • A clear rationale at every step. Nothing is mysterious. You will understand why your therapist is suggesting each exercise and what it is meant to shift.
