Trauma Therapy

Heal from past trauma with specialized support

WHAT IT IS

What Is Trauma Therapy?

The goal: the past stops governing the present. Trauma therapy addresses experiences that overwhelmed your capacity to cope and left a lasting mark on how you relate to yourself and others. The goal is not to erase what happened but to stop it from setting the terms of your daily life.

The idea: trauma lives in the body as much as the memory. Trauma shows up as startle, tension, numbness, and reflexive reactions that arrive before any thought does. That is why approaches working only at the level of reasoning often fall short.

The method: safety first, then processing, then integration. Effective trauma work follows a sequence. Build regulation and resourcing; process the traumatic material with EMDR, IFS, somatic work, or trauma-focused CBT; then integrate the shift into how you live now.

OUR APPROACH

How Perspective Counseling Services Delivers Trauma Therapy

Trauma-informed care across the whole practice. Trauma training is the common thread on our team — EMDR, IFS, TF-CBT, CPT, somatic and expressive approaches — including complex and developmental trauma, betrayal trauma, relational trauma, and attachment injuries.

Nothing moves faster than you do. You decide what gets approached and when. Sessions are built to keep you inside your window of tolerance, and stabilisation always precedes processing. Care is available for teens and adults at both offices and by telehealth statewide.

WHY IT HELPS

Key Benefits of Trauma Therapy

New growth emerging on a bare branch
  • Triggers lose their grip. Situations that used to derail your day become manageable as the underlying material is processed.

  • Shame gets addressed directly. The self-blame and worthlessness that complex trauma leaves behind are treated as core work, not a side effect.

  • Relationships become more possible. Healing attachment injuries changes how safe closeness feels, which changes what your relationships can be.

  • A body that is easier to live in. Somatic approaches ease the chronic tension, numbness, and hypervigilance that talk therapy alone often leaves untouched.

  • Genuine control over the process. You set the pace throughout — an experience that is itself corrective after trauma took control away.
